ACCESS TO THE RESEARCH PHASE
For entering onto the research phase of the Doctoral programme is necessary to possess an official Master degree, or one of an equivalent level awarded by a higher education institution of the European Higher Education Area.

Students with degrees from educational institutions not forming part of the European Higher Education Area may also access the Doctoral program, without need of standardization, after confirmation that the degree provides a standard of education equivalent to the corresponding Spanish Masters and would permit access to Doctoral studies in the country of origin. This does not denote, however, that the degree has been officially validated, nor that it is recognized in any other capacity than that of entry onto the programme. Students can be also admitted to the research phase of the Doctoral programme by complying with the following:
  1. Obtaining 60 credits included in one or various Masters Courses.
  2. Possession of the Diploma in Advanced Studies, obtained in accordance with the Royal Decree 778/1998, of April 30th, or having passed the suficiencia investigadora (a level of research competence), as stipulated in the Royal Decree 185/1985, of January 23rd.
Previous knowledge: It is recommended that students have basic knowledge in the chemical, physical and biological aspects of nanoscience. Specifically, the student must know the chemical, physical and biological techniques commonly used in the preparation of nanomaterials and nanostructures, the study of these nanomaterials and nanostructures using microscopic (in particular, electronic and near-field microscopy) and spectroscopic techniques and their main applications.

In order to compensate any background deficiency, the student must attend at the beginning of his doctoral studies, the schools organized within the Master on Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (National School on Molecular Materials and European School on Molecular Nanoscience).

Languages to be used: During his PhD the student has to be able to work fluently in a scientific context in English, both written and oral. To ensure this level of English, students will be required to make presentations in English at both local (group meetings), and international level (international meetings and conferences where students present their research work).

ADMISSION TO RESEARCH PHASE

Students who meet the abovementioned requirements can be admitted to the PhD research phase according to the following specific entrance requirements and assessment of the merits:

- Specific Admission Requirements: Have completed 60 credits in the Masters in Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, or any other related Masters with the approval of the Doctorate Coordination Committee.
- Depending on access, the Doctorate Coordination Committee shall establish some courses from the Master in Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology that the student has to take. The number of credits will never exceed 60.
- Assessment of the merits criteria: student records and scientific background of the group where the student will do his research activities will be assessed.

The Doctorate Coordination Committee of each participating university is the body responsible for the student's admission.
