The Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) at the Universitat de València is the organiser and host of Chem2DMat 2026, an international conference on the chemistry of two-dimensional materials that began today, 27 October, in Valencia and will run until 29 October. The event brings together researchers from international scientific institutions to share the latest advances in this field.

The fifth edition of Chem2DMat is being held at ADEIT–University-Business Foundation and features a scientific programme bringing together specialists from different countries to discuss advances in the synthesis, characterisation and chemical modification of two-dimensional materials.

These materials are attracting growing scientific interest because of their properties and potential applications in fields such as electronics, energy, sensors, catalysis and nanomedicine.

Over the three days, researchers from international universities and research centres will take part in lectures, scientific presentations and poster sessions, providing opportunities to exchange findings and discuss the main challenges in this research area.

ICMol, organiser and host

ICMol is a organiser and host of the conference. The local organising committee is chaired by Eugenio Coronado, ICMol director, with Alicia Forment-Aliaga as co-chair and Antonio Alberola as a committee member.

Today's opening session was chaired by Eugenio Coronado. The programme includes contributions from international specialists, including Maurizio Prato, from the University of Trieste, who is delivering a lecture on two-dimensional supramolecular approaches to artificial photosynthesis.

The international organisation also includes representatives from the Phantoms Foundation, Dresden University of Technology, the University of Strasbourg and the National Research Council of Italy (CNR).

Chem2DMat 2026 takes place from 27 to 29 October at ADEIT in Valencia.
