Henk J. Bolink among the world’s most cited scientists / Highly Cited Research...

Henk J. Bolink, Full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Universitat de València and principal investigator at the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol), has been recognised as a Highly Cited Researcher (HCR) 2025 by Clarivate. The distinction places him among the world’s most influential scientists, identified through the exceptional citation impact of their publications during the last decade.

Bolink appears in the “Cross-Field” category, which highlights researchers whose work has made significant contributions across multiple scientific areas. Clarivate’s annual list selects researchers whose articles rank in the top 1% by citations in their respective fields, according to data from the Web of Science Core Collection. The 2025 edition includes 6,868 scientists worldwide and covers research outputs from 2014 to 2024 across 21 disciplines.

At the ICMol, Bolink leads the Molecular Optoelectronic Devices (MOED) group, internationally recognised for advancing hybrid organic–inorganic semiconductors and their integration into light-emitting devices and solar cells. He also coordinates VALHALLA, a Horizon Europe project focused on high-efficiency perovskite photovoltaics manufactured through vacuum-processing routes.

Bolink obtained his PhD in Materials Science from the University of Groningen in 1997 and joined the Universitat de València in 2003 after research positions in the chemical and electronics industries at DSM and Philips. Over his career of more than three decades, he has made sustained contributions to the field of optoelectronic devices, particularly through the development of molecular semiconductors and perovskite materials.

He is the author of nearly 360 scientific publications, which have accumulated more than 27,000 citations. His track record includes 17 patents, the supervision of 31 PhD theses, and collaborations with major global companies such as Osram, Oxford PV, Novaled and Airbus Defense and Space. Bolink has received several recognitions throughout his career, including the RSEQ Research Excellence Award (2016) and an ERC Advanced Grant.

This new inclusion in the Highly Cited Researchers list confirms his position as one of the leading figures in the international landscape of optoelectronics and hybrid semiconductor research.
