From May 19 to 21, València will join the 10th edition of the international Pint of Science festival, an event that brings science out of the labs and into the bars, making it accessible, fun, and rigorous. The city will become a huge stage where researchers share their knowledge and discoveries in a familiar setting: the neighborhood bar.
The goal is clear: to bring science closer to society, break down barriers, spark curiosity, and foster critical thinking—all in good company.
ICMol joins the festival with talks at Glitch Bar:
Explorers of the Nanoworld
José J. Baldoví (Institute of Molecular Science, Universitat de València)
Did you know that the future of technology, energy, and even medicine depends on things 10,000 times smaller than a human hair? In this talk, we’ll journey through the fascinating universe of the nanoworld, exploring major breakthroughs and the techniques we use to study and control properties at the nanoscale. We’ll also present our work designing smart 2D materials and their applications in emerging fields like magnonics, spintronics, quantum technologies, and sensors.
The Power of Small Things: Nanoscience?
Eduardo Andrés García (ICMol – Institute of Molecular Science)
“Hi, I’m Edu and I separate gases”—but how exactly do you separate gases? What is nanoscience, and how can it help us as a species? Could it be the major revolution of this century? Science is moving faster than ever, and humans have always mimicked nature. Like nanoscience itself, the most amazing things are often invisible to the naked eye. Come discover the power of small things—and don’t miss the stage debut of ANTonia!
Biomachines Are Real and Work with Electrons
Mónica Gutiérrez Salazar (Institute of Molecular Science)
You’ve probably heard of quantum physics—but what about quantum biology? Nanorobots are trending, but did you know biological nanomachines already exist inside your body? Dive into the captivating world of biophysics, where biology meets physics, connecting microscopic and macroscopic realms to unlock the secrets of life. This knowledge opens the door to modifying, using, and improving biological systems for our benefit. Come discover the incredible physics of life!
Nanomedicines: How Tiny Things Can Save You
Mario Inclán Nafría (Institute of Molecular Science – ICMol)
Nanotechnology already plays a role in our everyday lives and health. This talk will explain what nanomedicine is, how it works, and why it matters. We’ll explore its biomedical applications—both those under development and already in clinical use—and discuss the relevant ethical and environmental concerns.
Solar Energy – What a SPE(C)tacle!
Kassio Zanoni (ICMol – Institute of Molecular Science)
Did you know the sun could power the planet with clean and free energy? In this talk, we’ll explore how scientists are developing cheaper, more efficient, and more durable solar cells. Discover the magical materials that capture sunlight and how we’re creating solar cells as thin as paper that can generate electricity in a more eco-friendly way. The future of solar energy is brighter than you think!
Four bars, four themes, one science-filled city
This year, four bars in València will host nightly science talks starting at 7:00 p.m., with passionate speakers, jargon-free explanations, and a genuine desire to connect with the audience:
Casino Musical de Benimaclet
C/ Baró de Sant Petrillo, 14 – 46020, València
Theme: From Atoms to Galaxies
Glitch Bar
C/ Campoamor, 58 – 46022, València
Theme: From Atoms to Galaxies
Max Max
C/ Vinalopó, 11 – 46021, València
Theme: Wonderful Mind and Planet Earth
George Best Rock Club
C/ Alzira, 12 – 46007, València
Theme: Our Body
A strong Valencian presence
This year’s lineup features a prominent presence of researchers from València-based institutions, including:
- ICMol (Institute of Molecular Science – UV)
- IFIC (Institute for Corpuscular Physics, UV–CSIC)
- ITQ (Institute of Chemical Technology, CSIC–UPV)
- IATA (Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology, CSIC)
- I2SysBio (Institute for Integrative Systems Biology)
These centers not only stand out for their global scientific impact but also for their strong commitment to science communication. Taking part in Pint of Science is a way of sharing with the public the results of the science being done right here in our city by local talent.
Why attend?
Because science can be shared with humor, emotion, and accessibility. Because it’s a rare chance to ask questions directly to those pushing the boundaries of knowledge. And because talking about black holes, artificial intelligence, or sustainability could be one of the best ways to spend an evening with friends.
Admission is free, but space is limited—so be sure to arrive early. Each night promises surprises and invites us to look at the world with new eyes.
