Eugenio Coronado Miralles, Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Valencia and Director of the Institute for Molecular Science (ICMol), has been awarded the 2026 National Nanotechnology Award in recognition of his scientific career and his contribution to the development of molecular nanoscience in Spain.
The award is promoted and organised by ALPHABIOTECLEGAL, an organisation specialising in law and biotechnology, with the collaboration of the PONS Foundation, which will host the award ceremony. The prize recognises outstanding scientific careers and contributions to innovation, knowledge transfer, and the training of new generations of researchers.
The jury has highlighted Eugenio Coronado’s internationally renowned research career in fields including molecular magnetism, molecular spintronics, two-dimensional materials, and quantum technologies. Throughout his career, Coronado has published more than 730 scientific articles, received around 45,000 citations, and achieved an h-index of 103. He has also contributed to the development of 18 patents, reflecting his strong commitment to knowledge transfer and the practical application of scientific results.
Eugenio Coronado has played a key role in establishing molecular magnetism as a major research field and in creating a scientific school that has trained several generations of researchers. His work has helped bridge molecular chemistry, materials physics, and nanotechnology, opening new avenues for the design of functional materials with potential applications in electronics, information storage, and quantum technologies.
The award also recognises his commitment to talent development, teaching, the promotion of new research areas, and knowledge transfer to industry. This approach to science, based on excellence, collaboration, and support for younger generations, has been instrumental in the growth of ICMol and in consolidating its position as an international centre of reference in molecular science.
The award ceremony will take place on 10 November 2026 at the PONS Foundation headquarters in Madrid.
This distinction adds to the extensive list of awards and honours received by Eugenio Coronado and highlights his decisive contribution to the advancement of molecular science and nanotechnology in Spain.
