The PhD program in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology has been slightly modified.

Introduction

The PhD program has been awarded with the Mention Towards Excellence (MEE2011-0370) given by the Secretaría General de Universidades from the Ministry of Education, in its resolution of October 6th 2011.

Registered with the code 5600363 in the Universities, Centres and Titles (RUCT) of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

The Master in Molecular Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is the training period of the PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (www.icmol.es/master/nnm)

In recent years, some scientific areas such as supramolecular chemistry, molecular biology, and surface and low temperatures physics have reached a remarkable development in our country. Several research groups in these fields have been formed and have achieved an excellent competitive position in the international area. In addition, the research object of these disciplines has been converging towards a new discipline known as Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The strategic importance in R&D of these areas is shown by the fact that they have been prioritized in all national, European and international programs.

In these areas, physicists, chemists, biologists, physicians and engineers are involved in obtaining, organizing, studying and exploiting the properties of nano-sized objects. However, keeping an international competitive position in some nanoscience areas in the present and in the future requires a competence level only reachable with a thematic focus and the adequate training of researchers, in order to give them the necessary multidisciplinary knowledge.

The molecular orientation of this PhD program makes it unique at national and European level. This orientation allows the development of Nanoscience aspects in the intersection between physics, chemistry and biomedicine, strengthening its multidisciplinarity. Thus, the PhD in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology:

Offers training in research for those researchers graduated in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Chemical or Electronic Engineering, Materials Science and Technology and Medicine providing an advanced education and professional qualification for their academic and research career.
Establishes collaborative relationships with high technology institutions and companies.
Promotes the cooperation among different universities to develop a research profile in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology demanded and recognised by the R&D sector.
Renowned groups from the Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Applied Physic departments from the 5 involved universities take part in this PhD program, granting the multidisciplinary nature and critical size necessary to become a national reference in this strategic area. Most of these groups are integrated in University Research Institutes such as the Institute of Molecular Science (www.icmol.es) from the University of Valencia or the Institute of Molecular Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and Materials (www.uclm.es/centro/inamol) from the University of Castilla La Mancha.
